A few Interesting Things...

  • So, another week and another WINOL. There's a couple of interesting bits and peices for the news team AS WELL as entertainments.

Obviously the biggest thing on everyones mind at the minute is the national demo... Students marching through London to protest against an increase in tuition fees in the very forseeable future.
On Wednesday we have been invited to attend a press conference at the hub of it all the University of London's student union. We will also be able to produce a live OB.
More of this will be raised in the news meeting on Monday.

So some other things that might be of interest?
  • There has been an appeal to homeowners in Winchester after a spat of rural burglaries. Seven farms and a few businesses were targeted. There is more information on a press release on an email on our account.
  • A virtual 'march' will take place on the 15th of November to get the Government to do everything it can to protect children against bullying. Steve Brine has backed the campaign himself. In aid/to launch anti bullying week 15th November - 19th November.
  • Hampshire constabulary headquarters are considering moving out of Winchester. To make room for new homes. Jobs could be lost.
  • Wine Bar set to open on Bridge street after opposition is dropped.

    Events/Entertainment.
  • 29th October - 3rd December. The White Space. The view on Bridge street is turned into a piece of art by Winchester Arts student. Go and check it out.
  • The Calender Girls - Sell out west end show returns to Mayflower in Southampton.
  • Christmas Market/Ice rink (Winchester cathedral) - Thursday 25th November - Sunday 19th December.
  • The Light parade - Thursday 25th Novemeber. (Workshops to make lanterns are 12th and 19th November.)

Cheeky Follow Up?

So this week as everyone should know (we do have the running order on a big white board in the middle of the newsroom) we're covering a story on graduate careers. Well for anyone that might not check the calendar (and for anyone that does not check this I will be handing out sheets of the minutes) there is actually a council meeting for the hampshire county council on Thursday the 4th November on employment in Winchester and Hampshire.

I know that we will cover graduate careers but this could be very relevant for a follow up story.

So anyone that is stuck for stories i'm having the e mail sent over and we may perhaps be able to do a follow up.

Thats all from me.

Sorry i'm late!

So we started a couple of weeks ago... I'm not going to lie.. I haven't been a very good planner! I'm sorry but i've had alot going on and i've been thinking about the best way to do things. After talking to my predecessor (Glenners!) I finally know what i'm doing and I hope I can help you out. Tune in (hopefully daily) for a national news paper review... Less GMTV and more student budget and also take a look at the google calender where you can find up coming events and council meetings for both winchester and hampshire!
I will also be printing out weekly calenders for you to take a look at incase there is anything you can turn into a news package... and if not a news package then a written story!

If you need me my details my number is up on the board and my e mail is

I hope to be of better use to you!
